Oral health improvement

The Herefordshire & Worcestershire Oral Health Improvement team co-ordinate, facilitate and support a range of evidence-based interventions to reduce oral health inequalities and improve oral health across Herefordshire and Worcestershire.

Supervised Toothbrushing

The Oral Health Improvement team in Worcestershire run the Smile Squad supervised toothbrushing scheme in targeted early years settings for children between 2-5 years of age.

Supervised toothbrushing programmes don’t replace brushing at home. They help families by giving each child a free toothbrush and toothpaste to take home every term and staff encourage families to brush twice a day at home.

Settings that participate enable children to brush their own teeth using fluoride toothpaste, while trained early-years staff oversee the activity to ensure it is done correctly, one a day.
